After writing The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald spent the better part of a decade penning articles for Esquire magazine. In one of his more famed essays, The Crack-Up, he wrote, “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function. One should, for example, be able to see that things are hopeless and yet be determined to make them otherwise.” It’s an idea I’ve been chewing on for the last few months – especially when it comes to my own consumption. In a world of fast fashion and quantity over quality, it can be really hard – or seemingly hopeless – to find thoughtfully crafted, wear-forever clothing without spending a fortune. But I’ve always taken issue with the idea that price and quality are inextricably linked. Long-lasting fashion doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg, you know? (I mean – the best t-shirts I’ve ever worn are made from all-natural fabric, and they’re only $6 at Target!) So today, I’m walking you through 25 timeless pieces – all under $130 – that can stand up to the wear and tear of daily life. (As I’ve learned, it’s a lot easier to solve the consumption problem when you don’t need to consume! If businesses aren’t going to fix it, we can fix it ourselves. Thanks for that insight, Mr. Fitzgerald.) ANYWAY. Are you ready to look like a million bucks without spending a million bucks? Every time I wear a sweater coat on a plane, I’m complimented on my professionalism. The reality? I’m bleary-eyed, exhausted, and wearing a socially acceptable blanket in public. This version comes in both black and tan, boasts a removable belt, and is offered in sizes XXS-3XL – you’ll look like a million bucks while feeling like you’re still in bed. Bye bye, boob gap. This button-up’s boxy shape is relaxed and chic, with more than enough room for any of your assets. Dress it up with a pair of trousers for the office, or pair it with a simple chino and sneakers for a model-off-duty vibe. Full disclosure: Gap is quickly replacing Madewell as my go-to destination for high-quality pieces constructed with thoughtful materials. Case in point: these $39 pants are made from regenerative cotton, they’re preternaturally flattering on all body types (check out the size 14 model on the site – she looks fabulous!), and – to reiterate – they are only THIRTY-NINE DOLLARS. Belts can often be prohibitively expensive, but these 100% leather braided beauties won’t break the bank. (PS. These are just the tip of the budget-friendly belt iceberg. There’s also an extra 20% off orders over $100 right now, if you’d like to stock up on a few different silhouettes.) IT’S GIVING ELEGANCE. So pretty, so regal. (Navy and black are pictured above, but the wine red hue is also a total head-turner.) I don’t know of many dresses that can take you from wedding guest to work, but this one fits the bill! Bust out an electric slide on Saturday night, toss it in the wash on Sunday afternoon, and pair it with an oversized crewneck sweater for an office-ready outfit on Monday morning. If you miss the old-school J. Crew sweaters from the early aughts, you’re in for a treat: HERE THEY ARE! This lightweight crewneck boasts near-perfect reviews, 100% cotton construction, and a silhouette that’s simple to dress up or down. (Did I mention that it comes in 10 different colors and it’s offered from size XXS to 3X?) The look and quality of the iconic Clare V Grande Fanny at only a third of the price? It’s possible, thanks to this 100% leather belt bag from our friends at ABLE. (Added bonus: this one is actually an inch wider, so there’s even more storage space for your daily essentials!) These breezy linen trousers can take you from work to weekend – they’re a little polished, a little lounge-y, and a dream to wear in warmer months. They’re literal pajama pants you can wear outside. You will be the most pulled-together person in the grocery store, guaranteed. (They come in sizes 23 through 37, too!) You can’t travel faster than the speed of light. An object at rest stays at rest. And whenever Emily posts a photo in which she’s wearing these Nisolo mules, our DMs are flooded with questions about them – these are just a few laws of the universe. I’ve had my All Day Mules since 2019 and they’ve only gotten better with age as they’ve conformed to my feet and developed the prettiest patina. $99 is a steal for a shoe that’s THIS well-made. (They’re aptly named, too – you really can wear these all day.) Sometimes, a simple dress is all you need! I love the square neckline, the adjustable straps, the pockets, the 100% linen construction, and the nipped-in waist. You’ll turn to this dress over and over in warmer months for years to come, guaranteed. (PS. The white version is lined!) Okay, I take it back: Madewell’s still got it. I love the clean lines and tailoring on these shorts, and the patch pockets make them feel far more elevated than their $23.99 price tag. (Pro tip: if you like the cut and fit of the Colette line of bottoms at Anthropologie, you’ll also love the Emmett-branded pieces at Madewell.) A weatherproof, 100% waxed cotton twill body. A cheery olive hue. A timeless corduroy collar. Nothing says “I’ve got my shit together, but I’m low maintenance about it!” like a well-fitting barn coat. (Eagle-eyed readers may remember that I scored and recommended this coat last year in a Link Up post, albeit at a much higher price point – it’s DEFINITELY worth it.) Sometimes, the smallest details make the biggest impression. Swap your bobby pin (or hair tie, for my fellow thin-haired gals) for a modern, graphic clip – it’ll look pulled-together and intentional, even for those who don’t have a ton of time to spend on styling their hair every morning. The internet’s favorite pants now come in FULL LENGTH and NOBODY TOLD ME? They have a slightly cropped flared bottom, too, which makes legs look a mile long. I’ve long-struggled to find professional, wide-legged pants that don’t cling at the hip and thigh, but these check every box and more. (They’re offered in sizes 23-34 and in tall, petite, and plus sizes, to boot!) Smart, simple, and refined. Toss a classic cardigan over your shoulders to protect from chilly restaurants now; don it all fall for a cool, studied, professorial look. (Added bonus: you’ll be able to pay for that restaurant meal with the money you saved!) In October of 2023, I treated myself to this $485 purse from Clare V in celebration of my 32nd birthday. Do I love it? Yes! But would I rather have a purse with the exact same dimensions, near-identical construction, and an extra $355 in my bank account right now? SURE WOULD. THE REVIEWS! How stunning do those normal women look in this? It’s the ultimate throw-and-go dress – add a cardigan for church; slip on some sneakers for the farmers market; pair it with sandals and statement earrings for vacation. Em grabbed these subtle barrel-legged pants last month, and I mistook them for a MUCH more expensive brand. They’re more comfortable than jeans and the cotton twill looks refined and chic. (You can watch Em’s video review here to see the pants in motion!) Spoiler: the Mary Jane ballet flat is a trend. (A cute one! But a trend, nonetheless.) To that end, DO NOT SPEND $250 on a pair of Loeffler Randall flats. Don’t spend $180 on Alohas! These sweet ballet flats are just as well-made – 100% leather lining and upper – with charming proportions at only a fraction of the cost. (A year from now, you’ll be thrilled that you kept $152 in your pocket. I promise.) And if you’re more of a mule gal, Gretchen owns and loves this tried-and-true backless version! If you told me this dress was $600, I would FULLY believe you. The drop waist! The silhouette! The back!!! (The strap is removable, BTW.) It’s so classic and refined without feeling try-hard or contrived – SWOON. Are you speaking on a panel as an authority in your field? Are you the head of your own cool business? Do you just have great taste? Are you one of the lucky few who can actually wake up like this? These are the things people will think when you walk in donning a refined vest, just like this one. (And it’s 100% cotton from Boden, so you know it’s going to last!) Looking to impress? Swap your white t-shirt for this simple, breezy top made entirely from organic cotton. (The subtle Swiss dot print really gives it something extra, don’t you think?) Chilly office? Late-night beach bonfire? Icy movie theater? No problem. This relaxed sweater’s lightweight weave is luxe AND functional. Pair it with bold sunglasses or a chunky pair of earrings for an on-trend, dressed-down look this summer. New Balances are here to stay. And while you could rock a standard gray pair, I far prefer this indigo suede version! Mix and match these with outfits as you would a denim jacket or pair of jeans – they’ll add some fresh, unexpected color and texture to any look. You can’t go wrong adding this hue to any outfit – it’s a total style hack. Over a decade ago, I bought a scalloped hem shift dress from J. Crew which I wore NON-STOP (to job interviews, to brunch, to the taco truck, to weddings – you couldn’t get me out of it!). But then life happened, and my go-to dress no longer fit. So imagine my utter surprise and delight to find it again, updated in 100% linen fabric with the sweetest button-back details. I love the sunny yellow hue, but I know that I’ll get wear out of the ochre version for years to come. ADDED TO CART! Any other favorites? Any affordable brands worth checking out? Any timeless pieces on sale you’d like to share with the class? Here’s to building a long-term wardrobe without breaking the budget. We’ll see you tomorrow for an awesome edition of the Link Up, followed by the FIRST River House Reveal on Monday! Have a great weekend.
Read MoreI’ve known for a minute that I’ve “needed” a cute throw-on-and-go flat. Yes, I have my worn-in sneakers, some cute mid-height chunky heels, and maybe two “dressy” sandals. So no, I don’t technically need anything. But look, sometimes you just want to feel put together without donning a heel or showing off your toes, am I right?? Now it’s also summer and I don’t know what the temperatures are where you live but baby it is NOT cold outside. Breathability was going to be a big factor in my ballet flat search. Lucky for me (and maybe you) two ballet flat trends are killing the breathability game – the woven flat and the mesh flat. I honestly can’t get enough of either. But this past weekend I decided enough was enough and bought a pair that I’m pretty obsessed with. I will show you in a sec but first, let’s look at Emily’s current favorite pair… The Greta Ballet Flat Emily got these for a Madewell partnership and fell for them hard. The woven detail, that leather color, the little elastic strap to secure them, what’s not to love?! I almost got them for myself and honestly still might, but as you will soon see what I got is VERY different:) They are a little pricy at $148 but are super versatile and come in other colors. Rodni Mesh Ballet Flats For a cool savings of $20, I found these equally as cute but slightly more modern ones! The reviews do say they are better for a more narrow foot but how good is that shape? I also really like the slightly chunky buckle. OOff, these are on the list too…They also come in other neutral colors. Swan Lake Gem Mesh Flats Would you believe me if I said these were the ones I got?? Well, believe it baby because they are! No one is more surprised than me that I decided on a rhinestoned mesh flat. Well actually, a couple of weeks ago I went to a design event with a friend who was just wearing a white blouse, jeans, and the fancy Loeffler Randall version and she looked so cool, effortless, and fun! Basically my dream look. That’s when the idea was firmly planted. So I decided to do some in-person shopping (which I now slightly regret since I could have gotten 20% off with Em’s code online…EMILY20 for those curious). But there I was, perusing the shoe section of Anthropologie, and there they were…the shoes my soul needed. Perfect little mesh flats that every time I look at them give me a serotonin boost. I wore them out of the store because I needed them on my feet ASAP! I know this style won’t be for everyone and that’s ok but if you think they might be I HIGHLY recommend them. Get ready to feel like a princess! Did I even send a picture of them to my 8 and 10-year-old baby cousins, hoping for their high praise? Yes. Have they responded yet? No, but I’m sure they’re just not currently on their iPads lol. Oh, but I did find a more affordable option too since I know these aren’t necessarily cheap. P.S. Clearly these types of shoes are not meant for the great outdoors and probably aren’t your “walk around in all day” shoes. But they are great for parties, brunches, a quick yet stylish trip to the grocery store, etc. It’s your life so wear the sparkly shoes wherever you want! Elsa Mary Jane Ballet Flats with Memory Foam Insole Target for the win! These VERY similar versions are not only $30 but also have a memory foam insole. Not to mention a very pretty shape. And in even better news, they also come in a wide version. Princess sparkle shoes for all!! Cadel Imitation Pearl Mary Jane Flat But look, maybe you aren’t a gem gal and prefer the sophistication of a pearl:) I did see these in person and they are very elegant. I also just love a simple elastic strap for a true ballet flat look (and less work getting them on or off). And while I think these could be worn for literally almost any occasion, how good are these for a bride? Think bachelorette, think bridal shower for my gals who hate heels, think late-night dancing at the reception! They also come in white for the most bridal look:) Lennox Rhinestone Mesh Flat I do want to make sure my gals who love dark colors are represented too. These are equally as fun and are a little less “ballet” without the strap which I’m sure some of you will appreciate. The shape is beautiful and these puppies are only $40. A fun and GREAT deal. Landon Soft Ballet Flat Y’all!! These actually are Loeffler Randall but instead of being priced at $250, they are on sale for $100!! No, not cheap but for such a high-end brand that’s a steal. Plus these beautiful pink ladies are very versatile. Sure, they don’t have gems (lol) but that pink is just bright enough to make a little statement but soft enough to work with so many different colors. Love. Aldan Black Sheer Mesh Ballet Flats Oooo this modern flat is good. I really love where the opening hits the foot (that sounded weird but you get it). These are just wildly chic, will effortlessly take you into the warmer part of fall, and get this…are only $29! But if you love this simple look and color but want a more traditional shape these ones might be perfect for you. Cadel Ballet Flats Now, this is a ballet flat post so if you really want that true ballet vibe then these are it. You’ve got the elastic strap, the little bow, and the classic shape. A summer ballerina is what you shall be! These are a little pricier at $115 but they come in 6 other colors..including RED! Swan-Lake Flat Speaking of red, these cutie patooties are the non-gem version of the ones I purchased. They come in a bunch of colors (see the photos above). I really really love those light blue ones! I just think this is a super fun way to add color to an outfit. Idaline I was actually surprised at how much I loved these when I saw them. I haven’t been a pointed-toe flat gal in years but how cool would these look with a wide-leg trouser and casual tank?? Dressy but with the most summer vibe. They are just really chic and under $100. Yes, please. Woven Ballet Flats Sorry, it’s been a very “mesh heavy” post (if you can’t tell I’m a big ole fan) but these woven gals were another pair I saw at Anthro and really considered getting. The leather is soft, the style is very classic, and man do I love a silver shoe. Actually, I have my eyes on these silver sneakers so that was another reason why I decided to go a different direction. But if silver isn’t your vibe they also come in four other colors! Mesh Ballet Flats I am so happy that red shoes are having a moment and these are a great example as to why. That bold tone is GOOD and the open mesh is such a fun texture to add to an outfit. These babies are show stoppers and with that ankle strap are even cuter. Also under $100! Embroidered Mesh Ballet Flats You know I had to end with one more mesh option and it is taking everything in me to not purchase these. For $56 and the cutest embroidery maybe ever, how could I not be tempted!? But if the flowers are a little much for you then there are other plain colors for that same great price. Sadly, the shoe show has come to an end but I hope you had a great time and maybe found a pair you loved if you were looking for a new flat. If you need to find me just look for my sparkle shoes:) Love you, mean it.
Read MoreWhen something as big as the Nordstrom Anniversary sale comes around, it’s both very exciting (the deals!) and overwhelming (the hundreds of products to sort through!). I tend to lean more on the overwhelmed side and usually don’t take advantage of the savings (this also typically happens on Black Friday despite my desire to plan ahead). But since I’m trying to become smarter and more strategic with my spending and this sale is one of the most beloved ones of the year, I went through every page finding the best pieces that we think are awesome AND a great deal (of course I asked the team what they thought too:)) Ok, let’s go! It’s my personal belief that an olive/army green jacket should be a staple in everyone’s closet. It’s a neutral tone but a little more fun and a pretty color on basically everyone (at least I think so). Of course, there are a million different styles in which you can have this green jacket and we love the three options above. Are you kidding me with that single-breasted coat?! Tailored, chic, and $90 off!! But if you want a slightly more casual look, how cool is that utility jacket? It’s got EHD written allll over it. However, we know the rain is bound to come sooner or later so that long hooded waterproof coat is awesome and $155 off. I have one that is kind of similar in style and I love it! It makes me almost happy when the rain comes:) And since we’re already talking about coats, we also loved these. Now the oversized blazer trend is still going strong but tell me this cropped cutie isn’t amazing (and a great deal). So if you love a blazer but don’t want it to be oversized this one is a great option. For a more classic long coat look that’s legit warm look no further than this plaid gal. The colors of the plaid are so pretty and warm but then you have a black quilted liner with a hood that makes it look so cool and modern. You shouldn’t have to be cold to look stylist and with this one, you won’t. But if you want to play a little more with your coat then this dusty blue number is perfect. The shape is classic but that boucle nubby fabric is so fun! Emily has had similar coats and I also loved when she wore them. Now let’s go under the jacket with these two button-ups! This boxy Madewell one is a great spring/summer/early fall top. Throw it on with shorts or style it like in the photo with jeans and a boot. It also comes in a darker blue! Then I fell hard for this satin, bell cuff number. I just think it’s fun yet elegant and looks great with a pair of jeans. I have one from my mom that’s similar so I can vouch for the style:) Ok, jeans. This is a GREAT time to get those pair of jeans you really want but can’t handle the idea of paying full price. I’m right there with you! If you’ve been curious about barrel jeans maybe these Paige ones could be for you! I love that dark wash too. Or maybe you prefer a classic wide leg but like the idea of a fun detail to mix it up. Enter these two-toned raw hem ones. I really love these and think they are the perfect fit for someone who wants something different but isn’t a big risk-taker. What a sale like this is also very very good for is planning, which I why things like jackets, coats, and BOOTS are a smart get. These are the three that I really loved. The first chunky sole Chelsea boot is by the one and only Sorel. So not only do I 1000% trust the quality of these shoes and their ability to hold up to the elements, but Emily has a similar-ish pair that she absolutely loves and wears all the time. Case closed I think. For a less, wet weather-friendly option, these brown suede beauts are so freaking cute. You could easily wear these at night in the summer but really they are the ultimate fall boot. They have a slight cowboy vibe but are a little more versatile style-wise. Then lastly, we have the black leather version that’s a bit more affordable. A little cowboy, a little city, and a lot of style. But buying for the season at hand is also pretty great:) I had to choose Emily’s favorite sandal, the Arizona Big Buckle Slide. This version is more of an orange tone but they are equally as cute and from what I hear, COMFORTABLE. Then for my new obsession, the red flat, how sweet are these ones? The woven leather gives its simple ballet flat look a little something extra. But if you’re more of a modern dresser, then I love these light blue flats! The way it covers more of the top of your foot while still having a nice opening shape is a 10/10 for me. There’s really nothing like an awesome sweatshirt for those cool early-morning walks or workouts. It’s silly but I have a more enjoyable time when I feel like I look good (and I don’t think I’m alone in that:)). So these two options are perfect for this. I love the one on the right mostly because of those cool, clean lines. Chic, right?! But then when I looked up the details it’s also lightweight and stretchy. Win! But for the Nike sweatshirt, that is a cool girl sweatshirt if I ever saw one and while I can’t see the discount yet I am VERY tempted! The crop looks cute but not tight (I will likely size up) and that zipper also adds to the coolness. I know I will strut down my street with a little more attitude in this one:) Continuing with Nike, I need another pair of sneakers and these are classics! Who doesn’t look good in these? No one, that’s who. Nike is just being very coy with savings so we’ll see if I decide to take the plunge. And as a proud millennial, I will continue to wear no-shoe socks and Emily truly does love her Bombas. So for anyone needing some new ones, these are great and it doesn’t hurt that you are saving $26. Enough about what I want to add to my cart (well, actually it’s everything this post but I digress), here are two awesome casual jackets. If you don’t have a jean jacket or need a new one, snag this one. I have a similar version and love it so much. It goes with everything and you’ll have it forever. But for a slightly warmer option, how sick is this black bomber jacket?? A total classic style that will up your cool so instantly every time you wear it. I want one:) Emily is a hat lover if you haven’t noticed by now so when I saw this hat on the sale I thought, “the people need to know!!” It’s from a company that Em loves and it’s really similar to one she bought this year. Plus it’s a great deal. Then staying in the natural woven family, I just couldn’t resist not including this little clutch. I love the summer feel and that cute ball lock at the top. Plus, it has a removable chain-link crossbody strap. A great option if you’ve been looking for a great bag. Onto one of my favorite categories, delicate jewelry:) I honestly can’t get enough and have to police myself often into not buying more as the point for me is to only have a couple of necklaces so they continue to look minimal together. But if YOU have been looking for one or two, let me introduce you to this wonderful, modern locket. Yes! It’s a locket! No notes, only wishing I had more than one neck. In a similar vein, but not a locket is this little teardrop pendant. Tell me that’s not the prettiest layering necklace. And for $32??? A steal! Organically shaped pearls have been on the rise in fashion for quite some time but these earrings are among some of my favorite pieces I’ve seen! They are elegant but modern so could be worn just during the day or to a fancy dinner. I think they are stunning. But if you are a silver lover will cool girl style then this is the necklace for you. Like I just insinuated, this is a COOL necklace that could easily be worn on its own or with a couple of other pieces stacked. I just love the heavy chain with the heart pendant. My friend has a similar one and I always leave her wanting my own. Ok, I think this is the last self-serving category. I really want a set of pretty silky pajamas and I thought some of you might feel the same way! I just have two requirements – washable and no long pants. I HATE getting tangled up in silky pants as I’m trying to sleep. Absolutely a first-world problem…but not NOT annoying. So first up is that beautiful Kelly green set. I love the tank top aspect for warm nights and that color is good. But for a classic matching pj set look at this sweet light pink one. So so cute. But for the colder months, that striped set is so cool and fun! The drop shoulder and wide cuffs are details I love. Good luck to all of us in being able to decide. This is called the “comfortable category” because while totally different pieces, both of them look SO comfortable. People LOVE this style of jumpsuit and I thought what better time than to grab one in the summer? Wear it now with a tank around town, then when fall comes throw on a cute long-sleeved top and cardigan and you are set. But if you are looking for a great slouchy sweater, this one is it. It comes in other colors and is from Free People. In my personal opinion, Free People has THE BEST oversized but cute sweaters hands down. Normally, they are pretty pricey but at least here you get $43 off! It’s beauty time baby! If you want a nice curling iron, this is a great one, and $50 off! Then if you’ve been really wanting to try the Dyson hair dryer and have early access as a member you can save almost $100 dollars. WOW! My hairdresser does say it’s really freaking good. Oh, I just wanted to add in this body wash because it’s my absolute favorite (I’ve tried others and it still is #1 in my book). It’s expensive this one is a bigger bottle so for $12 more you get double the product. Ok, none of us have smelled the Studio McGee diffuser scents but they are best sellers and I trust Shea’s taste. I typically love her Target candle scents so I can only imagine these are even better:) Then Volcano is the famous Anthropologie scent that almost everyone loves so I don’t think you can go wrong with this one either. I have a dream of having a home that everyone loves so my next step is a diffusing like these! A sale also means it’s the best time to get the fancy cookware you’ve been saving for! Staub and Le Creuset are top-of-the-line classics and look so pretty! But $462 is A LOT for one pot so saving $172 is pretty awesome if you have your heart set on a Le Creuset. Same goes for the Stab baking dishes. These puppies are almost 50% off! But if you want A GREAT small appliance that will be the hardest worker in the kitchen, take a look at Our Place’s, Wonder Oven™ 6-in-1 Air Fryer & Toaster. It does SO much, looks great, and is $50 off. It’s tempting me!! Finally, we have one bedroom item and it’s a beautiful one. This throw blanket is a gorgeous green color (but also comes in cream) and as people who have worked with Parachute a lot, the quality is so so good. It’s simple and pretty perfect. We’ve come to the end! Hope this was fun and that maybe we saved you searching time and some hard-earned money. Have a great weekend but also we’ll, of course, see you tomorrow. Love you, mean it.
Read MoreWe’ve had a few partnerships lately on social of elevated basics that I’ve really liked and wanted to do a show and tell here, too. Most of them are splurgy basics and aren’t like statement pieces by themselves, but with styling, I hope they can give some ideas on how to dress up some timeless pieces to make them feel a bit more fun/current/interesting. Again, a lot of these are on the higher-end side but are great quality and super comfortable. However, regardless of the specific items I’m wearing, hopefully, these styling tricks will get your outfit wheels turning:) As you know I love my Frank & Eileen denim and linen playsuits, and was drawn to this striped set. The sweatshirt specifically is very cute, but it is definitely splurgy. I think the styling could help make any more affordable sweat set look less frumpy and more fun. I stole that random baseball hat from a friend (Dave!), threw on my Clare V belt bag (Target has REALLY good ones right now), and big $10 sunglasses (from H&M). I also bought new running shoes from Nike because I just started Orange Theory (which I’m LOVING). Here I styled the sweatshirt with my F&E joggers, Madewell bag, Everlane loafers, and hat I’ve had forever (this one is similar). Mixing up materials, doing the French tuck, and leaning into the Capri pant trend (but in a very casual way:) Frank & Eileen also wanted me to feature this travel set, which took me a second to look like “me” (I love the striped version but they were sold out and there was no way in heck I can wear white on a plane LOL). But through styling, I think it turned out super cute! I layered a thin striped shirt underneath (also from F&E but obviously any stripe will do), socks with Birks, and a Clare V mini bag (Target has this one that is also so cute, although perhaps a direct knockoff so if you have the budget buy from Clare V). I really like the mix of the stripes and checks together. It just makes the whole outfit a bit more fun. But this travel set is a great gift, especially for say Mother’s Day to someone who likes to travel in really put-together but comfy clothes:) This green linen dress is the same style and tailoring as my favorite denim dress so I wanted to feature a different colorway (if you are between the two I think the denim has a drape that is hard to beat but the linen is AWESOME, very washed, and smooth. I’m just more of a chambray fancy lady). P.S. I know that Frank & Eileen is so expensive but know that I started featuring them organically after buying this denim jumpsuit which I’ve worn for three summers now and LOVE (it’s extremely flattering and comfortable). The quality is super high, FYI, but admittedly out of a lot of people’s budgets. Hopefully seeing them styled out can give you some ideas. Here I styled it differently – with a denim shirt around my waist, an H&M purse, and a headband (old from Anthropologie). Layer on some necklaces and the oldest phone case in history (going on 5 years????). This is the first time I have worked with Everlane, although a long-time fan. My job doesn’t require me to go to an office, but if I did these clothes are EXCELLENT elevated basics. These pants went viral and kept selling out. They are really great barrel trouser pants that once I tried I was like “OH I GET IT”. Just a really good fit in the waist without cutting in too much. I felt awesome in them. The shirt is a GREAT summer button-up – really lightweight and airy but you still look pulled together. Of course, I had to pair with a headband to shake it up a bit. The shoes are also Everlane and so cute, but they kept falling off the back of my heels probably because my feet are too wide. These two were cute but didn’t work as well with my body type. The jeans are high waist and wide leg (my exact wrong shape – I’m a low waist, skinny jean gal). But the pants are super cute, just less not right for my figure. OKEE DOKEY. After we shot all of those I did a big try-on/haul for an Anthropologie partnership at the mountain house for social and so I figured I’d throw these into a post as well! Not all of these are “throw and go” but some are VERY cute, so maybe you’ll see something you like (or not). I fell in LOVE with this skort because it’s extremely flattering, although these are a size 4 and I need to size up (my butt cheeks might be hanging out). But the cut/fit is good because of the flair of the leg and where it hits on the waist. Also a massive fan of these shoes and you’ll see them in all the shots – they lengthen the leg, are super comfortable, and go with everything. Also because they are platform they don’t read as heels so I think I can wear them even more casually should I want a boost. The blouse is so cute and classic but more fun. Another solid YES. Pistola has great rompers and I know there are a ton on the market, but many of them are too thick/heavy for summer. This one is super lightweight, short-sleeved, and generally so easy to throw and go. HUGE FAN. Double points for matching my spray tan LOL. Same shoes:) I was SHOCKED at how good these pants were. I ordered them because I thought they were a fun pattern, but since they said they were linen I was worried they would be stiff. Not the case! They are super drapey and so comfy. The jacket is awesome for layering summer/fall and spring. Classic and a great cut. It’s splurgy so best for someone who knows they’ll wear it a lot, IMO. Most people wouldn’t call a micro mini a “throw and go” piece and maybe me neither (I’m wearing a 28/6). It’s splurgy for being so tiny, LOL, but do I love it? Sure. But that’s because right now I’m the most comfortable baring my legs when it’s hot and you can’t wear that many clothes. The blouse is super cute, has huge sleeves (bordering on too big but I love them), and has a nice short boxy cut. I have this blouse in white and love it, but a darker color is also really practical for summer. Easy, breezy, lots of details but not fussy. This is probably the least “me” outfit here, but I actually really loved it. The skirt has a liner (like a tennis skirt) because it is short and wide. I’m wearing a 6 here. The top has these cute sleeves that look bunched up (but not in a cheesy try-hard way). It’s a little oversized and I think personally looks best tucked in. I tried on WAYYYY more, y’all so these were my stand-out favorites. Shout out to this cardigan that didn’t make it into any shots, but is super cute and easy to throw on.
Read MoreIreally shopped high and low for this post, desperate to find more nice-looking, comfortable, throw-and-go summer dresses that feel easy to dress up and down (you know, just the “comfortable and pretty” combo that is so elusive). Most of the common retailers didn’t have any fun prints or patterns (looking at you Madewell, J.Crew, Gap, and Target) but I was able to find some that I really love and I’ve been having fun wearing them. Splurge: This is Trovata, Birds of Paradise and yes, their dresses are on the splurgier side. I bought this for a speaking engagement where I knew I’d be sitting the whole time (thus not wanting to wear a tiny dress which I’ve done in the past and it’s A LOT OF THIGH). The color and sleeves are so cute, the print is busy and playful, it has pockets, is very flowy, and while it’s thin (and so drapey), it is colorful enough not to be too see-through. The shoes are solid and so comfortable for being so high. They aren’t “all day around town” comfort like these ones are, but they are dressier and are still a 7 on the comfort scale. The bag is from Madewell (and the hat I think is an old Madewell collab I’ve had forever). H&M really got the “fun, affordable, and comfortable” dress brief this year. This dress, especially, when paired with that denim blazer is so fun, graphic, and cute. It’s a great Friday afternoon into happy hour vibe that still feels professional but shows some personality. Oversized sunnies from H&M (so good), shoes are Nisolo and again the bag is Madewell (and coming very in handy – the perfect size for laptops and other stuff). Ugh, I’m not selling this dress as good as it is. It’s so bright/bold and has a drop waist that keeps it casual. It drapes so easily and is the perfect picnic dress because you don’t constantly have to adjust like you need to with shorts or shorter dresses. I’ve found myself wearing this frequently around town or at kids’ sports before it gets crazy hot. Ok now this one didn’t end up working out for me but I wanted to show it to you. I love so much of Doen (just bought this shirt and this shirt, both incredible) but this dress is too thin and short for me (just feels like an expensive nightgown). I think it just needs to fall better and likely would on someone with smaller love pillows. Still cute, but not a hit for me. The sandals are basically an elevated Teva, with an almost snakeskin print in that nude color that I obviously like. Don’t look too closely – I haven’t had a pedicure since March, sooo… This is another one that I put on and was a fast “yes”. It’s so fun to wear, has an extremely full skirt (so a ton of movement) great pockets, flutter sleeves, and a deep V. If you are long torsoe’d this will be too short because I have a short torso and it’s almost too short for me. But I’ve worn this to kids’ sports games with sandals and a ton around town when I want to look like I care but also be super comfortable (especially before the weather got hot). I bought at a local shop (shout out to Adorn in Lake Owego) and I’ll be following this brand from now on. Another great “work to happy hour” vibe. Mille is splurgier, too, but always has great shapes of collars and sleeves and so many prints. I ended up returning this one because it was a lot of volume for my frame (and it was expensive), but if cost weren’t a factor I would have kept it and dressed it down with sandals or threw on a blazer to tame the volume. (Hey Mille, it would be awesome to make this in a drapier fabric!). Big round glasses from H&M (and I LOVE wearing them, they look so expensive and the huge frames make it easy to see). Another one that isn’t necessarily very “me” but it’s so cute, affordable, and easy to wear for the summer months. Brunch, shopping, city walking…I have too many clothes right now without an office job to go to, but again with a cute blazer/jacket, it could easily go from work to happy hour. You can’t see the slides that well but they are really cute (leather on top and jute on the sides). Very comfortable. I was really drawn to this one because of the cute print (obviously) and the fun sleeves. Definitely an easy weekend dress (or work if you work in a more casual environment). Those are the platform sandals (Sorels!) that I’ve been wearing nonstop and that cute bag is from H&M (I love the multi-texture/finish of the raffia and faux leather). If you missed last week’s poolside, resort, and vacation dresses post go check it out. I’m officially fully stocked on dresses for the summer LOL.
Read MoreThere are things to splurge on – things with structure or the perfect tailoring, and then I feel like there are some things that by nature can be more affordable – where they are meant to be looser and therefore maybe could be constructed with less detail. That was my thought/hope at least. So I went shopping to see if we could find the non-$300 flowy vacation dresses that would be good for poolside or a resort and since I like sleeves on me all of these will indeed have sleeves. And to make them more fun, all of them have patterns or prints. Very throw and go so you don’t even think about it, you know you’ll look cute:) This one is the splurgiest from Anthropologie, but the fabric is soft and super airy, doesn’t wrinkle easily and the pattern makes it super easy to wear. The sleeves bell out a bit, and V is more low cut also I’m going to stitch it a bit to keep it from showing too much bra (which I don’t think is a problem, but I don’t love it). But that’s how much I liked the dress. It does run a little big, FYI. This one is decidedly less “me” but my goodness H&M had so many fun options. This is definitely a little bolder and goes slightly glam, but for dinners on vacations, I feel like it’s soooo easy to wear and still looks dressy. I LOVED this one. It’s a total kaftan and super loose and flowy. The fabric has rayon in it so it flows and drapes really easily/well. It’s hard to see the shape of it but it’s just a long, loose, flowy dress that you could wear with flip-flops or dress it up like I did with a cute bandana and sandals. I will wear this one a ton when I want to feel “resort vibes”. This dress (also from H&M) had such a good floral print. Also, it definitely has some fun detailing. I’m not sure it was the best cut for my shape but I still thought it was so cute. This was my attempt to see if I could find any affordable versions of the Daughters of India dresses (which I tried and are soooo pretty but hit my boobs in the wrong place). I bought a few on Amazon to test out and this is the one that I kept. The colors and prints are not as good as they could be, but it felt so fun, drapes so easily and for $32 I had to admit it was a decent version. Very easy to wear and fun. I actually photographed so many dresses on this day I have another post coming next week for more daytime summer dresses (also printed, patterned, and with sleeves but slightly more dressy). I was clearly on the hunt and went to all the usual suspects (Target, Madewell, Anthro, Old Navy, Gap, Free People). I was surprised at how hard it was to find what I was looking for until I went to H&M and then a couple of higher end boutiques. I hope my sleuthing helps:)
Read MoreEarlier this week, when we were brainstorming our Saturday fashion post (cause not every Saturday can be a swimsuit spread where we get to go on an international trip to shoot:)) Caitlin suggested we do an affordable white dress post. Why? Well, Caitlin is a HUGE team white dress gal and gave me a whole list of reasons why they are acutally the best dress option: For whatever reason I feel like they need the least accessorizing??? White dresses kinda feel like the only thing you need and can still look pulled together with 0 other effort or accessories lol. They go with everything! Tons of shoes and bags and accessory options (if you want some accessories:)) – they can always feel different. You just kinda feel nice when you’re in a white dress – Clean? Breezy? Pulled together? Like someone who has their life together enough to wear an all-white outfit, you know? When you inevitably spill or stain, I actually think they’re easier to keep clean – kind of like hotel sheets for the bod lol. A good detergent (or a little bleach) and some correctly applied bluing liquid (this video on keeping whites white will change your life) is all you need! They’re my fav and you can wear them year-round (F the rules about Labor Day, honestly) – they’re just so much harder to find in the winter! I love pairing my heavier white dresses with tights and a sweater (this easy styling hack rocks), and you can layer your lighter-weight dresses by throwing a skirt on top (so like, the dress is your “shirt” and the skirt is your “bottom.” Added bonus: extra warmth!) Anyway, they rock and if you like dresses, a white one will change your life!!! Those are some pretty compelling arguments if you ask me! And if I think about the times I have worn a pretty white summer dress, there is this inherent feeling of sophistication (which I’ll take as much as I can get, ha). So with all of Caitlin’s excellent points in mind, here are 18 really awesome white dresses that are all under $150 (ok, aside from two) but most are under $100! Crinkle Gauze Embroidered Mini Dress – $44 Nothing says summer to me more than an eyelet detail! But I really love the subletness of it for this dress. The sleeves and hem are so elegant but the gauzy fabric gives it that easy breezy vibe you want in the summer. I just think this is such a pretty yet modest option, especially for that price. Oh, and it comes in two other colors! Cassie Button-Front Midi Dress – $148 Another detailed sleeved cutie! I really adore a midi length and with the button-up style (AND POCKETS) I feel like you would instantly be transported to Italy once you slipped it on. Also, that type of embroidery totally reminds my of my mom’s clothes from the 70s that I always adored. This dress just looks so pretty and easy to wear. Dress it up, dress it down. It also comes in black if that’s more your speed and plus sizes. Eyelet Tie Front Maxi Dress – $70 But maybe you want to feel a little dressier? Enter this beauty! Full eyelet, adorable puff sleeves, and a very sweet tie-front. There’s nothing not to love here. Think how pretty (and sultry) dropping those sleeves off the shoulder would be?! This dress also comes in orange if you want more of a bold statement and ranges from size 14 -32! Fit & Flare Eyelet Midi Dress – $50 How pretty is the structure of this dress?! It’s simple, timeless but extra special with the eyelet fabric. It also looks like you could still wear a normal bra which I am always rooting for:) This cutie comes in a bunch of different fabrics (not other eyelet colors though) and sizes up to 4x! Amelia Shirtdress – $138 Ugh, those ruffles! I think this shirtdress would be a perfect office option but equally as perfect for a fun brunch. It’s a J. Crew bestseller so I am not alone in thinking this is an excellent dress (I also love how they styled it with a chunky gold chain necklace). Some reviewers said they even have two! It does come in two other prints that are a little more expensive, FYI, and the sizing goes up to 3x:) Mila Dress – $145 A classic look that I will never tire of. I love the chic simplicity of this dress and how seemingly beautiful it drapes. The perfect amount of an oversized sleeve too. A true staple! The sizing is unfortunately limited and only goes up to large. Crinkle Gauze Swing Dress – $21 A truly perfect throw-on-and-go little dress! The neckline is so pretty and fun with that little ruffle…and you bet it has pockets! I also really love those flutter sleeves which keep things nice and breezy up in those parts. This also has some very cute other color options and sizes up to 4x. Asymmetric Button-Front Cover-Up Tunic -$90 I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cooler shirtdress. GET OUTTA HERE! And it’s under $100!? Perfect for work, perfect for boppin around town looking like the chicest person alive, no notes. Mini Vest Dress – $35 I want to be this girl! Simple and effortless in her chic style. This is another versatile piece that could easily be dressed up or down. My friend owns a vintage version that looks almost identical and I always think, “Man, I want to look like that!” And the even better news is that it sizes up to 4x and comes in black too! One-Shoulder Midi Dress – $158 I know this little number is more on the dressed up side but if you are going on vacation (not like camping, of course) then you should absolutely consider this dress if you are shopping for new things. Just imagine you strolling the streets of a Greecian island. Can you see it?! Or sipping a crisp glass of white wine in an Italian square. Perfetta!! Linen-Blend Shift Mini Dress – $39 This regal cutie is very much in the same world as the dress above. Clean lines, relatively modest, and very “effortless cool girl”. It’s also looks regular bra-approved! In terms of sizing, it’s offered in regular, tall, and petit. It also comes in black. Embroidered Tank Mini Dress – $108 How good is that neckline?? Well, we aren’t the only ones that think that because this baby is a bestseller! I don’t have much more to say aside from that I think it’s just so cute. Halter Neck O-Ring Poplin Midi Dress – $55 I’m a gal that loves a halter so this dress is speaking my language. That o-ring detail is so cute and makes it look much more expensive than it is! And who doesn’t love an elastic waistband? Another great dress for vacations or fun events at home! It comes in three other colors too:) 100% European Linen Fit & Flare Midi Dress – $80 A very sweet vintage feel with this one, no? I love that square neckline and how simple and clean it is. Plus it has pockets so another point should be been added. It does come in a few other colors and a print! Bow Back Mini Dress – $78 I adore this drop-waist style so much. Truly! So when I saw this one I had to include it. The lifestyle shot really sold it for me. It’s definitely more dressy with that bow in the back but there are events all summer long so I doubt that will be a problem:) Hey, even a nice dinner will suffice! It’s just a special dress and what’s even better is that the sizes range from 14 to 32. Dipped-Waist Sweetheart Maxi Dress – $120 For some smaller sizes in a very similar style, I found this one and loved it just as much! The longer length is so good and how sweet is that sweetheart neckline? What’s even better about this one is that it’s offered in some other colors too:) Clio Dress – $138 Vacation is calling again with this one! It’s such a romantic-looking dress, right?? And sure, it doesn’t lend itself to a regular bra but you could easily wear a strapless or pasties if that’s your preference:) I just love it and this beauty sizes up to 3x and comes in other colors. Yes, yes, yes! Gap × DÔEN Eyelet Midi Dress – $158 And for our grand finale, we have the Gap x DÔEN collab eyelet dress. DÔEN is such an incredible brand but affordable it is not. So this collab (while on the higher end of “affordable”) is much more approachable! This eylet dress is a great representation of the sweet romantic style DÔEN is known for. I love the tiers, the ruffled trim around the neckline and straps, as well as the little tie at the top. So cute and so versatile. Did you find one you like? I hope so! Caitlin really drove a hard bargain so you might see me walking around in a white dress very soon:) Have a great rest of your Saturday! Love you, mean it.
Read MoreEmily has been dabbling in matching sets for a minute and we’ve been loving all of them. And then on our Mexico trip, most of us busted out at least one, and let’s just say we have no notes! It’s such a fun way to look really put together and stylish with almost zero effort. It’s almost like when I wore a uniform to school and the “what am I going to wear?!” question never came up…but these are actually cute:) So we thought that rounding up some affordable and cute summertime matching sets that you can wear in your everyday life (not just on vacation) would be pretty fun and hopefully helpful. So all of these are lightweight (LOTS of linen or linen blends), family-friendly (aka pretty modest), and won’t break the bank. Also, note that most of these sets have other clothing type options on their respective sites! So if you’d prefer pants over shorts or something sleeved over a tank, just hop on over to the shop to see. Ok, let’s go! Casual Pink Stripe Short Set The person that wears this is FUN! But like cool and fun:) Em bought this set from Old Navy for our Mexico trip because it’s perfect for vacation and really comfortable (she noted that the elastic on the shorts is light and doesn’t cut in, great!). It also comes in a bunch of other color options, including solid ones. Neutral Linen Stripe Set If you love stripes but prefer a more neutral color, then this set from Target is for you. Arlyn owns the short-sleeved top and had this to say about it: “A $20 shirt that fits and wears like it’s $100…so I bought three of them. I randomly spotted this linen button-down on a recent Target trip and I could tell right away that it would be something I’d love to wear, and likely grab over and over again this spring and summer. Plus, for the price, I couldn’t pass up every color they had in stock (they have a few more colors online they didn’t have in store). And let me tell you, it’s been exactly what I hoped it would be. Soft, washes well, wears well, drapey but not potato-sacky, short but not cropped. Plus, I love the oversized front pocket with the pattern shift to feel very Madewell without Madewell price tags.” So just add the pull-on shorts and you have a VERY cute and affordable matching set. But if you aren’t a short-sleeved lover, you can get the long-sleeved button-up! Elevated Linen Beige Set This one is very much up my alley. It’s very much giving “quiet luxury” without the “quiet luxury” price tag. My favorite! Simple, chic, and easy to pair with other nonmatching pieces. But Abercrombie has sooooo many pretty options that you can easily mix and match. You’ll see one or two more on this list:) Cool Girl Blue Multi-Stripe Set Another extremely cool set that says, “I’m so chic it almost hurts.” The multi-stripe pattern is cool and the pajama look is actually super on-trend. Plus it’s from Everlane which is a brand I love. Another Cool Girl Blue Stripe Set Another casual with a hint of sexy and I’m into it! The bold contrast stripe is awesome and I love the tie front vest. Also, on-trend but not in a “you’ll look silly wearing it next year” way. It just looks cool if you ask me. Bold Floral Skirt Set I had to include at least one floral, right? And I think this one is great. It’s so pretty, the darker coral color is stunning and this would look great for a fun lunch or a causal summer wedding. Versatile! Casual But Bright Orange Set Gretchen really sold us on this set when we saw it in person! The color is so good and she loved how comfortable it was. She was on vacation mode with her cute bikini top, but it also looks great buttoned up like on the model. It also comes in a bunch of other colors! Tailored Denim Set This is the most structured set of them all but it was too cute not to include! While you’d have to check on the skirt length, I think this is such a cute summertime office look that you could easily take out on the town for afterward drinks. The pockets and buttons make it feel extra special. This one is also SO Mallory coded:) Moody Blue Linen Set Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean you always have to dress in light or bright colors. This navy linen set has such a “cool girl” vibe. The pinstripe is pretty perfect and I love that the shorts are high-waisted :) Happy Business Casual Yellow Set I think Emily’s review says it all: “I literally laughed when I saw this set on the rack, saying out loud “Who wears a bright yellow suit??,” but I tried it on because the fabric felt nice. Then as I turned around to show Kaitlin and Gretchen how it looked and all of us were like, oh shit – YOU WEAR YELLOW!! Now, I do think it looks better on me with a spray tan (representing here) and I’d wear it with a more casual T-shirt, but I’m proud to say that I’m now the owner of a yellow summer suit!! Move Over, Kate Hudson!!??” Little Tailored Black Set For those who want to beat the heat but refuse to wear anything other than black (or just like the color:)), I love this set. The squared neckline of the top with wider straps, which allows you to wear a regular bra worry-free, is SO cute. And get outta town with those cute pleat front shorts! Another great set from Abercombie (that also has other tops and bottoms for you to mix in). Casual Tie Shoulder Top Black Set This one is super affordable! I really love the flowyness of the cuts and that it’s in a darker color (unusual for summer clothes). The pattern is fun and how great are all of the details – tie strap, ruffle neckline, and beaded drawstring? This may not be everyone’s cut but for the right person, it would look awesome. Easy Red Linen Set Here’s another really great sleeveless set that would be real perfect for holidays like the 4th. But it would also just be great for warm weather. The top is the real star with those front pleat details and a surprise tie in the back that you can’t see! Highly recommend going to see for yourself. Bold Red Maxi Skirt Set Another casual yet a little sexy set:) I am really on the red train this year and personally, I usually feel more comfortable in longer skirts than a short. But what I love about this one is it’s really clean and simple with those two little slits on the bottom. Easy Breezy Bright Blue Set This is a GREAT blue! I could also easily see myself in this (even if it’s a shorts set:)) It’s also from Old Navy and I know that Emily, Gretchen, and Kaitlin were all super impressed by the overall quality so I have no doubt this one is a winner. Plus if blue isn’t your color they have a bunch of different options. Weightless Sky Blue Set I think I’ll let Caitlin take this one: “If you love the look and feel of linen but you’re not crazy about the price tag, you need to RUN to Target IMMEDIATELY. This set was $35 and it feels incredible – soft, breathable, and comfortable (you know a gal loves an elastic waistband!). I have a long torso and found that the tank would flash just the right amount of skin – I’m not comfortable in “crop tops” and I normally wouldn’t gravitate to this draped cut with my 36F boobs, but I was SO surprised by how at ease I felt in this combo. I’m usually a 12/14 and grabbed a large in both pieces – they really feel like a nice way to dip my toes into the world of matching sets in a way that doesn’t feel like I’m trying to dress like a teen! (PS. The rest of the A New Day collection is unreal – I grabbed this linen-blend dress and these pants and the quality is UNREAL for the price. You’ll love it, I swear!)” Cute Scalloped White Midi Skirt Set Ok, this is my last Abercrombie rec, I promise! But can you blame me?? The scalloped borders (hems?) are so sweet and add so much personality without being too loud. Big big fan. Elevated Stripe Skirt Set Here is the last set and the only skirt set that has a sleeved shirt and boy is it cute! Minimal but fun and perfectly boxy (Madwell knows how to make a great boxy shirt). A great vacation or general summertime set! Well, we’ve come to the end and hope that if you’ve been wanting to dabble in the matching set world that you found something here. See ya tomorrow! Love you, mean it.
Read MoreAs a shorts lover, my season is just beginning. Time to give my spray tan, thighs, knees, and ankles their moment – the attention they deserve as the all-important bottom half of my bod. Some of my favorite Levi’s were either too small now or had so many holes that it felt a little questionable, so I bought a few more to show you. I still like to keep it casual with shorts most of the summer, but some of these are a bit more tailored while others are more slouchy. None of them are particularly tight mostly because I like to be comfortable. While I know that longer shorts are more on trend right now (and capris are making a comeback!!!!) I still like the medium to short on me, but with a little bit of width (not too huggy on the thighs). If you want to know my unpopular opinion re the capri comeback, I AM LIKE THE ONLY PERSON EXCITED!!! I’m so sick of baggy jeans being trendy, I miss my wonderful skinny jeans and while I agree that some capris look bad, I’ve seen a few that I was very excited by. So stay tuned for that big comeback (I’m assuming more for 2025, people are NOT ready yet and most of the major brands aren’t pumping out capris yet). Meanwhile, I present to you a bunch of cute jean shorts that I’m loving. These guys from Madewell have front pockets that I think are flattering and feel more tailored. They flare out a bit, and without any holes they feel pulled together and more current. I really like the medium to dark wash too which isn’t my typical go-to but I’m into it. These are my current favorites for all occasions, but they are sold out in denim now!!! I also bought them in the chino version which is still available. They have elastic on the back, but flat on the front. I’m sorry to tease you – but the cut is good enough and they are so affordable so def grab them in the chino version if you like. I LOVE that new cardigan for summer. I brought it on my long weekend to Arrowhead because it layers so well over so many clothes. And that is my new bandana move/styling trick should you be wondering… Still my favorite mules for when I want to be comfortable, have a little heel, and yet not make a foot statement. These are my second favorite – these jeans shorts are really cute, a great light wash, comfortable, and have a little bit of fraying at the bottom. But overall super easy to wear. I wore them for a social partnership with Madewell so as you can see I styled them a few different ways. The shorts are a little longer in the back which I like. Just solid go-to’s for me (and on a sale for mem day). Another pair that has awesome huge front pockets (which I find really fun) and a cute rolled cuff. See that little tie-up (?) piece?! Such a great but small detail that makes these feel a little extra special. But what I also really love is that they are midrise and a little slouchy. My favorite combo. These are SOLID and I’m going to wear them all summer. Lastly, a pleated little version that feels more tailored and sweet. I’m wearing a 27 here but want to size up as they cut in a bit, so keep that in mind (fits more on your waist, than on your hips). But they are super cute. Also, I’m really loving those woven ballet flats (like sandals but as flats, because they have holes so they are super airy). And that dropped shoulder top is a great summer weight knit (heavier than a T-shirt but not sweater materials). Happy jean short season :)
Read MoreWE ARE BACK. The EHD team had a retreat in Mexico this recent week and it was so wonderful in a million ways (which I can’t wait to share with you). For today we decided to take a photo or two of some of our lewks that made us feel cute, comfortable, and just super summer (if that were an adjective). It was 75 during the day (a bit chilly at night). Head to stories to see these clothes more in action :) Emily I shall call this the dress I thought I liked a LOT and now realize I LOVE. The pattern and colors are so good, the fabric is super drapey and the boxiness of it gives it style. Is it flattering? Not in the typical way, but after wearing a suit all day and, of course, eating lots of delicious food, this was the only dress that I wanted to wear. Dress it up or down – heels or flip-flops. And while my bandana is vintage I think this is going to be my headdress move all summer. Also, those $15 sunglasses are wonderful. Gretchen Another linen set from Old Navy? Yes please! This is an easy, breezy and BRIGHT two piece-er that makes me feel tanner than I am and ready for vacation! The swimsuit top is old, but the gauzy top and flowy, pull-on pants are two awesome new additions to my linen line-up. I love how saturated the color is and the texture just feels beachy. Easy enough to slip on over a swimsuit and run to lunch, but so comfy you might find yourself falling asleep wearing them—not that I’m speaking from experience or anything. Also these sunglasses are an exact replica to a pair I bought (and broke) while visiting Toronto. I loved them so much and was devastated when they snapped, so I tried my luck finding the same pair on Amazon (thank you google lens) and scored them for a whopping $17, just in time for the team trip! Mallory Guys, I’m OBSESSED with this look and will be rocking it all summer long. I saw it at J. Crew and decided to try it on and it was an immediate “hell yes”. The skirt has 3 buttons so it’s adjustable around the waist and it’s elastic so it’s really comfy but it’s more of a cover-up kind of skirt since the slit is very large (can be safety pinned or sewn shut so the slit is less intense). It’s also super lightweight so it’s perfect for the warmer months. I can’t wait to pair the top with some light blue denim and rock a different look too!! I was surprised to find out it wasn’t very expensive for J. Crew — plus this purse went so well with it and it’s on sale for $26 right now! Jess Going into & Other Stories is always a gamble for me. Sometimes a huge success and other times well…not and the limited sizing is the issue. Luckily, this time was a big success as shown through this yellow dress:) It’s a large which is their biggest size (GET IT TOGETHER & OTHER STORIES! WHAT?!). So aside from that I really loved the color, the subtle floral pattern and the length. On the website they call it a midi dress but at 5’4″ it’s a maxi on me:) It also comes in a solid red which I’m highly considering too. It’s just easy to dress up or down and awesome for summer. Caitlin If you love the look and feel of linen but you’re not crazy about the price tag, you need to RUN to Target IMMEDIATELY. You’ll love it, I swear!) Hope these got you excited for the warmer months! See ya tomorrow.
